Hello. My name is Allan and I am a digital packrat.

Ever since I was a kid, I liked to daydream about building a car from the wheels up. I remember crawling around on the dune buggy my uncles built in the old barn when I was barely old enough for elementary school. My uncles were much more mechanically inclined and I was far too young to help them with the project, but that never stopped me from dreaming, drawing, and designing cars for years after.

It seems like everyone is trying to wrap their brain around what the "Internet" should be. Love it or not, the "series of tubes" that we know as the Internet has changed the way most of us live our lives, in both positive and negative ways. It seems recklessly irresponsible to try and control something that has taken on a life of its own. Deciding what the Internet should and should not be is a bit like deciding what profession your child is or is not going to pursue when they grow up. The end result of such action is almost always different than you hoped, and in some cases, incredibly harmful to everyone involved. The Internet as we know it is nearly thirty years old. I think it is a little late to ground it or send it to its room.
